cast iron dutch oven

Nicky got me an enameled cast-iron dutch oven, and I can’t wait to spend some quality time with it. Easy spicy garlic bread perhaps?

bingo cards

Saturday Free Bingo when we’re home (so not often). I’m gonna win me a big-screen TV one of these days.

spools

A hand-me-down box of old sewing bits: beautiful wooden spools of thread and what I think is a tatting shuttle. Do I dare take on tatting? What do you think?

Family stayed with us for several days, including the best dog in the world . . . Penny begrudgingly got along with her (which is a big deal for Penny).

Also:

  1. We saw Dr. Dog at First Avenue
  2. Nicky went to SXSW. Penny and I missed him like crazy.
  3. Taxes! If you live in the Twin Cities, especially if you are an artist or musician, you need to go to Fox Tax.
  4. I was already enthralled with Megan’s “Tuesday Progressions,” and now she has VIDEO. Check it out!
  5. Something drastic must happen: I’m thinking either a DIY-style BluePrint Cleanse or full-body Spanx. Busy+sitting most of the day+wedding season+summer = UH-oh. But, you can’t wear full-body Spanx AND a swimming suit. Hm.

I love tatting. I haven’t done it for years but it is really fun and easy to carry wherever you are going. There are a number of good books available and I am sure you can find tutorials online too. Try a butterfly to get you going. They aren’t too hard and they look lovely sewn onto the edge of blankets or stuck onto scrapbook pages or handmade cards.

hey congreatulations with your dutch cast iron oven. I’m a duth woman, but first i thought what this, but you have received a better expensive one, then mine.LOL
In Holland we use him for meat, my mum had less money to spend, so she bought a big sized piece of meat and did it in the thing you have and every eve by dinner we got some small piece of meat on our plates with the vegetables;-D
Perhaps you know dutch people are wellknown on their economic livestyle.LOL

Yes! Do dare with tatting! I was watching some videos the other day and it doesn’t seem to be SO complicated! The worst that can happen is that you will end up with a bunch of tangled thread, hehe.

Truly! I’ve actually been curious about it for a while . . . I’m mostly hesitant to add another thing to my “to-do” list when there’s already so many other things I need to catch up on ;)

The tatting shuttle in your pic looks just like the one my mother used. It is most probably a bone or ivory shuttle. Try your hand at tatting, it’s almost a “lost art”. The main thing in learning is ot be able to flip your thread to get it onto the main thread. Once you learn that, it’s a breeze!

Alright, I’m convinced — tatting is going on my to-do list!

Not so difficult as you probilbly will think.

On instructable.com as well, there are some tutes without the old shuttles as well. they are using just a needle.
