Flower Loom Basket Tote

June 17, 2011

Alright, here’s a doozie. This project was inspired by three posts: this tool, these colors, and inspiration from here.

I found this basket-y tote in the dollar section at Target. I didn’t know what I was going to do with it, but I knew I would do something. It sat and stared at me for weeks, it’s little eyes following me around the room, “You better figure something out. And quick.”

About the same time, I decided I better try to come up with another project with the flower loom. So, here’s what happened. I made a bunch of flowers on the loom and hot-glued them to the basket. I like it, but I don’t love it. It needs . . . something. I think I’ll be on the look-out for some raffia that I can embroider on the tote (reminiscent of these embroidered totes). Or maybe I’ll add some felt leaves. What do you think? Any suggestions? Help!

I guess I’ll consider this a work-in-progress for now!

So THAT’S what those flowers were for from the pic of your toes on the blanket!

I love this idea! Maybe you can crochet a lace border to put on the top edge of the tote? Seems to me like the top and bottom of the tote need ‘something’ to even out the design of the flowers :)

I like the crochet idea above, and I was thinking of ribbon between the flowers. I have one of those flower looms, I really must get it out!

Yeah . . . I really do want to use some ribbon on this. Alas, I can’t. Our cat, Penny, is obsessed with ribbon (any kind) for some reason. It’s like crack for him. He’ll eat yards of it in one go if I forget about a wrapped package or something. We’ve had a couple scares.

And, yes — get out your loom! I’d love to see some more projects. It’s hard to find inspiration for daisy loom stuff!
