Free Crochet Pattern: Sprocket Motif
Motifs are excellent for many applications: coasters, patches, embellishments—and when combined together—blankets, table runners, doilies, or window-coverings. This Sprocket Motif will be great for any one of these uses. Here are the stitches you need to know: slip stitch (sl st), chain (ch), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), and picot (this is a ch 3 picot). I used worsted yarn and a 5mm hook (motif measures about 4.5 inches in diameter), but use whatever yarn/thread and hook you’d like.
Make a magic circle.
- Ch 1. Make 12 sc into circle. Pull yarn end to tighten, and join with a sl st to top of first sc. (12 sc)
- Ch 1. Sc into same st as joining. Ch 3, skip next sc. *Sc into next sc, ch 3, skip next sc.* Repeat * to * around. Join with sl st to first sc. (6 sc, 6 ch 3 spc)
- Ch 6 (counts as dc and ch 3 spc). Dc into same st as joining. Dc into center chain of ch 3 sp, ch 3, dc into same ch. *Dc into next sc, ch 3, dc into same st. Dc into center ch of next ch 3 sp, ch 3, dc in same ch.* Repeat * to * around. Join with sl st to third ch of first ch 6. (12 ch 3 spc)
- Ch 1. Sc in same st as joining. Make picot into top of sc just made. 3 sc in next ch 3 spc. *Sc into next st (between the 2 dc), make picot, 3 sc into next ch 3 spc.* Repeat * to * around. Join to first sc. (12 picots, 12 3 sc groups) Cut yarn. Weave in ends.
